These are the ones that I tried:
- Calamares: served on the tiniest, little square plate imaginable. A bit rubbery. Rubbery chorizo "chips" to go with it. A joke really!
- Spicy Chicken Bureck: Delicious. Should have ordered more of these. You get 2 per serving.
- Haloumi Frito: Salty and very rubbery! And oily too!
- Firecrackers: Huge and delicious. Not the best Chilli poppers that I have had but definitely yummy!
For 2 "samples" it costs R38, 4 for R27, 6 for R98 and 8 for R130 - not cheap especially since some of the portion sizes are miniscule!
I had a glass of wine for R25. Some strange brand's merlot is the only red wine that they have by the glass. It was served in the goblet which makes the serving look extremely small. My glass was sticky as it had just been rubbed with a damp cloth and has little bits of cotton fibres stuck to it. My dinner partner had an Amstel that was served with a Peroni glass. The service was bad. The waitron was new and let us know that she was new. She did not have any knowledge of the menu and she asked us how to use the credit card machine.
The worst bit is that there was cricket on tv - with sound! This meant that there was no background music and it felt as if I was in a sports bar.
I have been to the Cafe Sophia in Rondebosch and the vibe seems to be much better there. I have not had a meal there but will let you know when I do. Rather go there, if you have the choice!
